Former President Barack Obama finds himself linked to newly revealed details from a prominent government watchdog group, details that raise fresh inquiries about the tragic passing of the Obama family’s personal chef earlier this autumn.
These revelations emerged when Judicial Watch obtained records through Freedom of Information Act requests. The documents also shed light on the response of Secret Service personnel stationed at the Obamas’ Martha’s Vineyard estate, as highlighted during a recent segment by Fox News host Jesse Watters.
“We now learn that Secret Service agents encountered significant challenges on the day Tafari Campbell drowned in the waters near Martha’s Vineyard,” Watters explained. “Through documents secured by Judicial Watch, we discovered that the woman paddleboarding alongside Mr. Campbell at the time—identified as Ms. Taylor—immediately sought assistance from Secret Service agents after he went underwater.
Two agents attempted to launch one of the boats, yet they struggled to lower the motor properly. Another agent then retrieved keys for the official Secret Service vessel, only to find that boat inoperable as well,” Watters detailed, drawing directly from the released materials.
Critical minutes passed while agents dealt with equipment that failed to function. Eventually, they secured the groundskeeper’s boat, but by then Tafari Campbell had vanished from sight,” the host continued, before connecting the former president to these developments.
One particularly noteworthy detail from the records shows that Ms. Taylor gave her statement to Massachusetts State Police inside Barack Obama’s personal office at the residence. Evidence indicates the former president remained present throughout that interview,” Watters pointed out.
Standard protocol rarely includes an employer observing a witness statement to law enforcement in such circumstances. The individual who saw an employee’s final moments then speaks with investigators while the former president sits nearby,” he observed, adding that procedures appear to differ significantly in certain settings.
Watters has closely followed developments in this case since Tafari Campbell’s tragic drowning near the Obama property during the summer months.
In October, additional records released through public-records requests provided more context about the incident while simultaneously prompting new lines of inquiry.
Reports confirm that Barack Obama arrived at the scene by motorcade shortly after Mr. Campbell was reported missing,” Watters noted. “An unnamed female staff member entered the water in an attempt to reach him after he fell from his paddleboard, but he had already submerged.”
New information also confirms that Secret Service cameras captured footage of Mr. Campbell on the Obama compound moments before he entered the pond,” the host shared.
Efforts continue to obtain that footage for further review. Everyone involved extends deepest sympathies to the Campbell family during this profoundly difficult time,” he added.
Judicial Watch acquired and published these records on its official website. Certain names and specific locations within the documents appear redacted for privacy.
The materials were released in response to a Massachusetts Public Records Law request submitted on July 25, 2023, seeking all records related to the death of Tafari Campbell,” the organization explained.
Family members informed investigators that Mr. Campbell had taken swimming lessons in 2019 and described his swimming skills as moderate at best. The incident occurred in Edgartown Great Pond, where water depth in that area measures approximately seven to eight feet according to Massachusetts Environmental Police.
A female eyewitness employed by the Obamas—whose name remains redacted—told authorities she watched Mr. Campbell fall from his paddleboard, begin struggling in the water, call out for help, and then disappear beneath the surface within seconds. Despite reaching his board quickly, the extremely murky conditions prevented her from locating him,” Judicial Watch reported.
Records further indicate that Barack Obama arrived at the emergency scene via motorcade that evening.
The following morning, authorities interviewed the eyewitness inside the Obama residence, with indications that the former president was again present during that session,” the watchdog group concluded.
