Young Girl Saved by Dad’s Kidney Donation After Battling Life-Threatening Condition That Made Her Look 8 Months Pregnant

Every parent’s greatest wish is for their children to be healthy and enjoy a happy childhood.

When Karen Rodas and Paul Bybkin welcomed their son Nathaniel into the world, their joy was tragically short-lived. Nathaniel’s life lasted only 36 hours due to Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a condition that causes cysts to develop in the kidneys, often leading to kidney failure. Heartbroken, the couple endured their loss and faced an uncertain future.

In 2013, Karen and Paul were blessed with a daughter, Maddy. However, their worst fears became reality when Maddy was also diagnosed with PKD, the same condition that had taken her brother. Her swollen tummy was so distended it resembled that of a woman nine months pregnant.

Despite their heartbreak, this time, hope was on the horizon. Maddy was given a second chance at life thanks to her father, Paul, who donated one of his kidneys to her.

Before the life-saving surgery, little Maddy spent much of her life in and out of hospitals, often sleeping up to 18 hours a day due to her condition. Doctors informed the family that Maddy’s ability to live a normal life depended on finding a suitable kidney donor.

Fortunately, Paul was a perfect match.

“With Paul and Maddy, two of my most precious souls, going under the knife, my nerves were a wreck,” Karen shared, as reported by The Mirror.

The surgery was a complete success, and both Paul and Maddy recovered beautifully.

“Daddy’s kidney has saved our little girl,” Karen said. “Now, she’s bursting with energy. Her once-massive tummy is just slightly rounded, and she’s a happy and healthy two-year-old.”

Paul humbly reflected on his decision: “We’ve been on a rollercoaster, but any father would do what I did. Donating my kidney to Maddy was simply part of being a parent.”

“Now we’re on a high,” he added. “We can watch Maddy grow up as a happy and healthy little girl.”

Although Maddy may need another kidney transplant in about 25 years, for now, she has a bright future ahead, filled with countless opportunities to enjoy life to the fullest.

We couldn’t be happier for this incredible family and wish them all the joy life has to offer. Share this heartwarming story with your loved ones to spread hope and well-being.
