Here’s Why You Should Always Leave a Spoon of Sugar in Your Backyard

Many people don’t appreciate bees because they think these insects are just a nuisance. However, in reality, bees are slowly dying out. These tiny creatures are essential since they are responsible for feeding 90 percent of the world’s population. If we eliminate them from our ecosystem, we will face a major disaster.

You don’t need to be an environmentalist to respect nature. There are some remarkably simple things we can do to help the planet.

While one person can’t do everything, together we can make a significant difference. We all share the responsibility of preserving the beautiful world we live in for future generations.

Zoologist and author Sir David Attenborough has dedicated his life to advocating for animals, the environment, and nature. Best known as a television presenter, Attenborough has an important message for everyone.

He posted on Facebook:

“If bees were to disappear from the face of the earth, humans would have just 4 years left to live.”

David Attenborough is not the first to issue this dire warning, but his message is a stark reminder that this is a real issue that we must take very seriously.

Bees may be small, but their role is enormous — about 33% of our food is pollinated by bees. David Attenborough states:

“In the last 5 years, the bee population has dropped by 1/3.”

However, the situation is not hopeless. There is a simple action we can all take, an idea that is spreading rapidly…

David Attenborough suggests a small but effective tip: mix some sugar and water on a spoon and leave it in your backyard. This simple act can help save bees, and in turn, our lives.

David Attenborough writes:
“This time of year, bees can often appear to be dying or dead, but they are usually just exhausted. Bees can become tired and lack the energy to return to their hive, often resulting in them being swept away.”

“If you find a tired bee in your home, a simple solution of sugar and water will help revive it. Simply mix two tablespoons of white, granulated sugar with one tablespoon of water and place it on a spoon for the bee to reach. You can also help by sharing this post to raise awareness.”

Another way to help bees and humanity thrive is by planting flowers on your balcony or letting wildflowers grow in a corner of your backyard. Your local bees will greatly appreciate it!
