Wife: “Sweetheart, please remember to pick up BREAD on your way home from work, where your friend Valerie might be waiting to say hello.”

Husband: “Who’s this Valerie you’re talking about?”

Wife: “No one at all! I only added that to ensure you’d read my message. I figured a surprising name would grab your attention fast.”

Husband: “Well… funny you mention that, because I’m standing with Valerie right now. Didn’t you spot me?”

Wife: “WHAT?! Where are you at this moment? Tell me immediately!”

Husband: “I’m by that bakery you adore so much.”

Wife: “Stay right there! I’m on my way!”

In a flurry of alarm, the wife abandons her tasks, snatches her purse, and bolts out the door. Her pulse races, her thoughts spiraling with countless concerns. Who could this Valerie be? How could he betray her trust? How long has this secret been unfolding?

Within minutes, she reaches the bakery, her eyes darting around in a frenzy. She checks behind every vehicle, peers through the windows, and even investigates nearby corners. She’s prepared to face her husband and this enigmatic Valerie head-on.

After a frantic search, she pulls out her phone, her fingers shaking as she types.

Wife: “I’m here at the bakery. WHERE ARE YOU?”

A brief pause precedes his response.

Husband: “I’m still at work. 😄 Since you’re already at the bakery, how about grabbing the bread?”

The wife stands rooted to the spot, her mouth agape. In that moment, it dawns on her—she’s been outwitted by his clever ruse! Onlookers notice as her face transitions from fury to astonishment, then to a hesitant chuckle.

She rereads his message, appreciating the sly way he flipped the situation. Shaking her head with a reluctant grin, she steps into the bakery.

While standing in line, she fires off a reply:

Wife: “You’ll pay for this when you get home! But fine… I’ll get the bread.”

Husband: “Thank you, my dearest! Oh, and give Valerie my regards. 😉”

She rolls her eyes but can’t suppress a smile. By the time she exits the bakery, her frustration has dissolved into amusement. She decides to purchase not only the bread but also his favorite pastries—because, despite his playful trick, her affection for him remains unshaken.

When she arrives home, she finds him at the door, beaming with open arms. She tries to hold back, but soon erupts into laughter, embracing him warmly.
