  • Heavy Cream and Milk: Essential for a velvety, luxurious sauce.
  • Onions and Garlic: Add depth and enhance the dish’s flavor.
  • Seasonings: Include salt, pepper, and optional nutmeg or thyme for a touch of warmth and earthiness.
High-Level Instructions:
  1. Slice the Potatoes:
    • Use a mandoline to create even, thin slices for consistent cooking.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • Simmer heavy cream, milk, garlic, and seasonings in a pot until the mixture becomes aromatic.
  3. Layer the Ingredients:
    • In a greased baking dish, alternate layers of potato slices, onions, sauce, and cheese.
  4. Bake the Dish:
    • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 45 minutes.
