The US president has encountered significant challenges during a recent UN meeting, reacting with considerable concern to the unfolding events.
Donald Trump has highlighted suspicions of a broader conspiracy while addressing the difficulties he faced during his time at the United Nations.
President Trump appeared visibly unsettled after contemplating the events of his UN meeting earlier this week.
Despite experiencing a series of technical difficulties while delivering his speech at the General Assembly in New York City, the president’s response to these incidents has drawn widespread attention and raised eyebrows.
During his visit, an escalator in the UN building unexpectedly stopped while Trump and Melania Trump were riding it, requiring them to walk the remaining distance.
Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, suggested that the escalator malfunction might have been deliberate, referencing a Sunday report from the Times of London. The report noted that UN staff had humorously discussed disabling escalators and claiming a lack of funds, amid significant US funding reductions to the organization.
Additionally, Trump encountered issues with a teleprompter and reported audio problems during his General Assembly speech, further complicating his appearance.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, provided clarity on the incidents in a public statement.
He explained that the escalator issue stemmed from an individual ahead of Trump inadvertently triggering a safety mechanism, causing the escalator to halt.
Dujarric further noted: “As for the teleprompter, we have no comment, as it is managed by the White House for the US president.”
In a detailed post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his frustration with the UN, announcing plans to initiate an investigation into the series of mishaps.
His post stated in part: “This was clearly sabotage, as evidenced by a prior report in The London Times where UN workers ‘joked about turning off an escalator.’ Those responsible should face arrest!
“… after delivering the speech, I learned the auditorium’s sound system was entirely inoperative, leaving world leaders unable to hear unless they used interpreters’ earpieces.”
Trump emphasized that the Secret Service is now involved in probing the incidents, adding: “This was no accident—it was deliberate sabotage at the UN. Those responsible should feel ashamed. I am sending this letter to the Secretary General and demand an immediate investigation.”
On Twitter, reactions to Trump’s strong response were varied and intense. One user remarked: “He’s acting like a monarch! Soon he’ll be calling for a guillotine on the White House lawn.”
Another commented: “Trump’s so sensitive that a broken escalator warrants arrests. He’s behaving like an overgrown child.”
A third user noted: “This is the epitome of first-world complaints. ‘I had to climb stairs.’ Give me a break.”
Yet another simply stated: “The most delicate man alive.”
