All shelter dogs yearn for a place to call their own, but unfortunately, some dogs are repeatedly overlooked and start to lose hope that they’ll ever find a forever home.

This heartbreaking reality was captured in a viral photo, showing a 3-year-old shelter dog looking utterly devastated after yet another unsuccessful adoption attempt. Nevertheless, amidst the despair, there remains a glimmer of hope for this lonely canine.

Rocky, a 3-year-old pit bull, found himself under the care of Lollypop Farm, Humane Society of Greater Rochester, in October 2022 due to unfortunate circumstances. His family faced eviction and could no longer provide for him, as reported by Newsweek. Despite being adopted twice and having a few two-week trial periods, Rocky always found himself back at the shelter.

“He was most recently returned this past September and has had no luck since. He’s a great dog, but he would thrive in a certain type of home that may be more difficult to find,” explained communications specialist Lindsay Brewer. Rocky would do best as the only pet in the home due to behaviors observed at the shelter, along with information gathered from his previous adoptions and sleepovers. The shelter staff captured a heartbreaking photo of Rocky sitting in a droopy posture, which has since gone viral. In the image, Rocky hangs his head down, seemingly devastated after yet another day of being passed over for adoption. Despite the setbacks, we remain hopeful that Rocky will find his forever family soon!
