On Thursday, just hours before he was to give his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, Trump announced Dobbs’ death.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “The Great Lou Dobbs has just passed away.”

He described Dobbs as “a friend and a truly amazing reporter, journalist, and artist,” noting that Dobbs knew more about the world and current events than most people.

“Lou was one of a kind, and he loved our country.” Trump expressed condolences to Dobbs’ wife Debi and their family, saying, “We will miss him a lot.”

The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

Before his work at Fox News and CNN, Dobbs began his career at Arizona radio station KBLU, covering police and fire stories.

In the mid-1970s, he transitioned to television, joining NBC’s King-TV in Seattle.

Dobbs was one of the pioneering reporters at CNN when Ted Turner launched the network in 1980, serving as the chief economics correspondent and host of the business news show Moneyline.

While at CNN, Dobbs promoted the controversial claim that Barack Obama, then a presidential candidate, was not born in the United States.

Dobbs left CNN in 2009 due to escalating tensions with the network’s leaders over his coverage and controversial stories about illegal immigration.

He joined Fox Business at the end of 2010, hosting Lou Dobbs Tonight.

His tenure at Fox ended in 2021 when the network canceled his show.

Fox News Media expressed their condolences to Dobbs’ family, stating, “We are heartbroken to hear of Lou Dobbs’s passing.” They praised him as “an amazing businessman with a gift for broadcasting” and credited him with helping to make cable news a successful industry.

“We are immensely grateful for his many contributions and send our heartfelt condolences to his family.”

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Dobbs, and their six children.
