Standing Strong for Democracy at 81

Barbra Streisand, the legendary singer and actor, remains unafraid of controversy. Even at 81, she continues to use her influential voice to oppose what she perceives as threats to democracy.

Streisand’s Dislike for Trump

Streisand, a dedicated supporter and fundraiser for the Democratic Party, has consistently expressed her disdain for former president Donald Trump. She has harshly criticized him, calling him “so stupid” and “ill-informed,” and labeling him “the Liar in Chief, the Groper in Chief.”

In a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, she emphatically stated, “I can’t live in this country if he becomes president.”

This isn’t Streisand’s first dramatic declaration regarding Trump. Like many celebrities, she vowed to leave the United States after Trump’s 2016 election victory, remarking at the time, “America was great – before you were elected.”

Expressing Frustration Through Music

Streisand’s frustration with Trump inspired her 36th album, “Walls,” released in 2018. This album critiques Trump’s administration, featuring potent tracks like “Don’t Lie to Me.”

She explains that the relentless stream of news and falsehoods made her ill, driving her to channel her outrage into her music. Streisand asserts that the country should not be deceived and stands firmly against dishonesty.

Artists as the Conscience of a Nation

In her memoir, “My Name is Barbra,” Streisand discusses the friction between politicians and artists.

She believes that artists serve as a nation’s conscience, urging society to confront uncomfortable truths. Streisand boldly states, “That’s why art is the enemy of tyrants and dictators.”

Staying and Fighting for Change

Despite her efforts, Streisand’s powerful voice couldn’t prevent Trump’s election in 2016. Celebrities like Streisand faced a tough choice: leave the country or stay and fight?

Some, like comedian George Lopez and talk show host Jon Stewart, joked about relocating to other countries or even planets. Others, like Chelsea Handler, realized their platforms were crucial in a divided nation.

Finding Hope in President Joe Biden

After four challenging years, Streisand finds hope in President Joe Biden. She admires his compassion, honesty, and integrity, and believes the country is on the right path. However, she remains worried about the upcoming elections and Trump’s potential return. Streisand is resolute in her decision not to live under a leader she deems “so stupid” and “so ill-informed.”

A New America: Restoring the Nobility of Truth

Ultimately, Streisand envisions a new America, free from pollution, obscenities, insults, and revenge. She calls for the restoration of the nobility of truth, believing that only then can America truly be great again.
