HIGH POINT, N.C. — Investigators believe a driver was posting to Facebook seconds before she crashed and died.

The accident occurred Thursday morning on Business 85 in High Point. Investigators report that 32-year-old Courtney Ann Sanford crossed the median and collided head-on with a truck.

Later that day, some of Sanford’s friends and family informed investigators about a Facebook post she made around the time of the crash. Investigators confirmed that the post was made seconds before the fatal accident.

“The Facebook post was made at 8:33 a.m. We received the call about the wreck at 8:34 a.m.,” explained Lt. Chris Weisner of the High Point Police Department.

Sanford’s post read: “The happy song makes me HAPPY!”

“In a matter of seconds, a life was lost just so she could tell some friends that she was happy,” said Weisner.

As investigators reviewed Sanford’s online activity, they discovered she had also been posting selfies while driving.

Sanford was expressing her happiness to friends at that moment, which tragically became one of her last.

“As tragic as this is, it serves as a stark reminder to everyone to pay attention while driving,” Weisner emphasized.

The collision caused the truck to veer off the road and hit a tree. Sanford’s car also went off the road and caught fire.

John Wallace Thompson, 73, of Garner, the truck’s driver, was not injured, according to police.

Sanford was wearing a seatbelt, but it was not being used properly, investigators noted.
